Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies

Danylo Husar Struk

In memory of Danylo Husar Struk (1940-1999), the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies has established the Danylo Husar Struk Programme in Ukrainian Literature at the Toronto office of CIUS. Danylo Struk was a professor of Ukrainian Literature at the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Toronto. His passionate enthusiasm for Ukrainian literature is evident in his numerous scholarly publications on a variety of topics in Ukrainian literature, his translations, and in the hearts of his numerous students in whom his contagious enthusiasm has found an abiding home. The Struk Programme in Ukrainian Literature honors this legacy and continues this task of fostering scholarly interest in Ukrainian literature. The programme will eventually develop into a major centre for research and publishing in the field of Ukrainian Literature.

The primary aim of the Danylo Husar Struk Programme in Ukrainian Literature is to promote familiarity with Ukrainian literature in the English speaking world. The Programme works toward this goal by sponsoring research, scholarly writing, translating and other activities. It promotes access to texts through print and electronic publications. In special tribute to Professor Struk, it organizes an annual public lecture in English, the Danylo Husar Struk Memorial Lecture, by a distinguished scholar, critic or writer.

Since its creation in July of 1999, the Struk Programme has concentrated on these projects:
